CONTRACEPTIVE IMPLANT
CONTRACEPTIVE IMPLANT NOW LASTS 5 YEARS
SWISH are excited to share that the Nexplanon contraceptive implant has had its licence extended to 5 years.
This decision was made by the UK Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in light of new evidence from a clinical trial, which found the contraceptive effectiveness was maintained up to 5 years, and there were no new safety concerns identified.
For all people with an implant currently in use, you can now continue to reply on your implant until 5 years from the date it was fitted. All people who call us for a replacement will be advised of this, and therefore your replacement will be deferred for a further 2 years. All new implants we fit, will now have the 5 year expiry date written on the reminder card.
For anyone who is experiencing problems with their implant, or would like a removal for other reasons, please continue to call us for an appointment on 0300 1245010.
