Gonorrhoea and Mpox Vaccines

SWISH is pleased to announce the opportunistic availability of two important vaccines for gonorrhoea and Mpox.
SWISH is pleased to announce the opportunistic availability of two important vaccines aimed at enhancing sexual health protection: Bexsero (4CMenB), which offers partial protection against gonorrhoea, and the Mpox (Monkeypox) vaccine.
The 4CMenB vaccine will be offered opportunistically to gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) attending sexual health clinics who are at increased risk of gonorrhoea. This includes individuals:
- Diagnosed with a bacterial sexually transmitted infection (such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia, or syphilis) in the previous 12 months
- Reporting sex with five or more sexual partners in the previous three months
Whilst gonorrhoea incidence remains highest in the eligible GBMSM group, sexual health professionals may also consider offering the vaccine to a small number of individuals with similar risk profiles, such as:
- Sex workers practicing condomless sex
- Others assessed as having a comparable incidence of gonorrhoea
Mpox vaccination is also provided opportunistically to those at higher risk of exposure, including individuals in high-risk sexual networks and close contacts of confirmed cases.
Vaccines are offered during routine appointments where appropriate, based on clinical assessment. All services are confidential and delivered by experienced sexual health professionals.
